UKE’s AP Chemistry course is designed to prepare students for success on the AP Chemistry Exam and beyond. Through engaging lessons, hands-on problem-solving, and real-world applications, students will develop a deep understanding of chemistry concepts while building essential analytical skills.

Course Structure:
The course is divided into 10 units, covering the entire College Board AP Chemistry curriculum with an emphasis on understanding, application, and exam readiness.

Unit 1: Atomic Structure and Properties
The structure of atoms, subatomic particles, and isotopes.
Electron configurations and periodic trends.
Photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) analysis.

Unit 2: Molecular and Ionic Compound Structure and Properties
Chemical bonding: ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds.
Lewis structures, resonance, and formal charge.
VSEPR theory and molecular geometry.

Unit 3: Intermolecular Forces and Properties
Intermolecular forces (IMFs) and their effects on properties.
Properties of liquids and solids.
Solutions and solubility principles.

Unit 4: Chemical Reactions
Writing and balancing chemical equations.
Types of chemical reactions (synthesis, decomposition, redox, etc.).
Stoichiometry and limiting reactants.

Unit 5: Kinetics
Reaction rates and rate laws.
Collision theory and factors affecting reaction rates.
Experimental determination of rate laws.

Unit 6: Thermodynamics
Laws of thermodynamics and enthalpy changes.
Calorimetry and Hess’s Law.
Gibbs free energy and spontaneity.

Unit 7: Equilibrium
Dynamic equilibrium and the equilibrium constant (K).
Le Châtelier’s Principle and response to disturbances.
Solubility equilibria and Ksp.

Unit 8: Acids and Bases
pH, pOH, and the pH scale.
Strong vs. weak acids/bases and Ka/Kb.
Buffer solutions and titrations.

Unit 9: Applications of Thermodynamics
Electrochemistry and redox reactions.
Galvanic and electrolytic cells.
Faraday’s Law and applications.

Unit 10: Review and Exam Preparation
Comprehensive review of key concepts from all units.
Exam strategies, time management, and stress reduction techniques.
Final mock exam simulation.
